Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 18 year old son is nauseas and has episodes of black vomiting. He swears he isn't/wasn't drinking. Also has chills and cold sweats, temperature only 1 degree above normal. Can't keep anything down except water or gatorade. He is an athlete (baseball)
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your 18 year old son and understood the concerns. Since there is nausea and black colored vomiting the commonest cause I can think of is hemetemesis unless proved otherwise and thus I would advise him the following: Go to ERR as this can be an emergency. Clinical evaluation, examination and investigations to come to a conclusion: Upper GI Endoscopy should be done and if any bleeding points are seen , should be dealt with immediately. Tests of stool for occult blood the next day. Tests of blood and urine. Ultrasonography of abdomen. Get started with a PPI like Omeprazole and antacids. This should get you the diagnosis and a proper management as per the findings.
