What Causes Vomiting At Night?

Hi, I m concerned about my father who lives in Florida, is 89 years old and has been vomiting mainly at night after going to bed for about a month. He says that he has stopped eating at night - I m not really sure what that means ( no dinner or no after dinner eating...) so he won t get nauseous overnight. He has type 2 diabetes, has experienced at least one TIA, has a small heart attach in April and had a stent inserted, is on meds for high blood pressure, gets very little exercise, but has lots of stress taking care of my mom. I just learned he is having an ultrasound of his aoerta and some procedure involving his esophagus this coming week. What do you suppose the doctors are worried about? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Aorta ultrasound is usually done to exclude aortic dissection or an aortic aneurysm.

He is undergoing esophagus procedure most probably for esophagus diverticulum or esophagus stricture.

This is as per symptoms described by you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi,
