What causes vomiting and diarrhea?

My daughter started throwing up saturday night. She was fine all sunday and then Monday night she threw up again throughout the night. I took her to the walk in they said she has a ear infection and gave her antibiotics. Monday was the last night she threw up That night she started having diarrhea and has had it since which today would be day 4. It is a orange red color and today it had like three red chunks that look like little stones. Other than the diarrhea she is acting normal. What is this?? I will be taking her to walk in tomorrow

Hello,

How old is your daughter? And what colour is the antibiotic that she is taking as medications can sometimes give stool an unusual colour?

I don't know what country you are writing in from as this is an international platform, but if you are in a country with good sanitation such as the US or UK, the most likely cause of vomiting followed by diarrhoea is viral gastroenteritis (commonly called "stomach flu").

As I don't have enough information to go on here (such as her age, if she is having fevers, number of diarrheal stools/day, and if she is keeping in liquids), I can't advise further.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,

I am a 33 yr old female. I have a 17 month old daughter. I have been on antidepressants (Effexor) off and on for 5 or 6 years now. It s a low dose and I don t have any bad symptoms from it. Since January this year, I have had episodes of vomiting sometime with diarrhea that usually only last about 12 hrs and seem very random. They happen every 2-4 weeks. So far it s happened about 5 times since January and it s now end of April. After it s done I m able to eat fine. I don t think they are flues that many times. I have a history of anxiety (never very bad) and sometimes I get really bad gas(burps) that smell like sulpher and are accompanied by diarrhea and vomiting, but this isn t the same. Not sure if it s stress or something I m eating. The first two episodes were preceded by me eating fish, so I haven t been eating fish since. I m also on a mostly soy and dairy free diet since November because my daughter has an intolerance to both.

My daughter is 10 she was diagnoised as having cyclic vommiting syndrome when she was 5. Lately everytime she has an episode she is worse. She completely dehydrates herself in 15-20 min of vommiting and diarrhea. She feels cold to the touch and covered in sweat. This last time she vommited blood clots and had bloody diarreha. she was admitted to the hospital and released the next day. All they did was give her IV fluids, and some blood tests. They did some stool tests as well. They think it was just a virus but don t know. I think there is more to this, please give some advice.
