What Causes Vision Problem In Child?

My son is having some problems like he has got (-8) no for his eyes as a test done by Venu eye instute (sheikh sarai).he is five year old but not reacting like one he does not speak accurately we are also taking speeching classes for him to speak properly. medical history of my baby is that he walks late ,stands late, eats late he hears properly as per a test called BERA he had not cried once with tears.he is not able to express his feelings. now after a consulting a doctor all above problems we undergo a scan called MRI for the baby. Reports of MRI says that MRI findings are suggestive of hypoplastic splenium of corpus callosum with no active brian parenchymal lesion. no fresh infarct .what does this mean.

Hi, I am Dr. Richa Sharma. I understand your concern. Your child has global developmental delay ( all milestones are delayed) and that's why, vision maturation is also delayed. But you have not mentioned the vision of your child with and without glasses. If his vision with glasses, is good that is 6/ 18 or better, you do not need any other treatment but if the vision is poorer than 6/18 and he is not able to perform his indoor and outdoor work, he needs assistance in form of low vision aids such as magnifier while reading. All these assistance and information is available at any good eye hospital. wearing glasses should not be a concern and you should motivate your kid to wear glasses regularly along with regular eye check ups.

Regarding the MRI finding you were concern, that means the thing which connect left and right brain is not developed properly. I will advise you to consult a pediatric neurologist as well as psychologist for other behavioural problem.

Thanks, Take care
