What Causes Vertigo, Soreness In The Neck And Headache?

Hi, I am 31yrs old, healthy & active 3days a week- I am hoping to get an answer to what might be causing these symptoms. (this is the best way I can think to describe it) Last November I had a bad case of vertigo/flu- it seemed to take about 3/4 months to stop. Between May to July I experienced 5 episodes where I catch my mind spacing out, then instantly feel hot and about to faint. I have been getting dizzy spells when I move my head from side to side, lay down or get up- sometimes its worse, then other times it seems to go away on its own. I have been having a stiff sore neck and feeling of pressure on the back of my head & headaches (5) for the past 2 weeks. Do you have any answers or adive that may help, thank you. Marissa

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it's is suggestive of benign positional paroxysmal vertigo and careful neurological examination specially cerebellar examination as well as for nystagmus and few diagnostic maneuvers by neurologist or ENT specialist can help to finalize the diagnosis.

However, brain imaging may also be required to rule out other causes along with metabolic profile and electrolytes levels.

Treatment will depend on the cause but betahistine and metoclopramide may be helpful for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
