What Causes Vertigo At Night?

I have been getting vertigo at night when laying on my side after 3-4 hours. It is long lasting and does not stop until I roll onto my back. It is fine when I first go to sleep on my side, and only develops after several hours of sleeping. I have seen a physio and all the testing for BPPV is normal. This started about one week ago.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
There are multiple reasons for vertigo while lying down and they should all be investigated in order to get to the root cause.
Low blood pressure, for once, can be a plausible cause. Low blood pressure is diagnosed when the bottom and top numbers are under 60 and 100 respectively. If this is the case, it can be corrected by increasing salt and water intake.
Another reason for dizziness or vertigo can be medications. If you are taking any medication talk to your doctor about this symptom.
Dehydration and overheating are also reasons for dizziness. Room temperature in your bedroom is best kept a few degrees lower than in the living area.
Also stress is a possible cause for the symptoms you are referring.
However, if you feel like none of the causss mentioned above do not apply to you, then I recommend you see a doctor for a check up and further investigation.

Wishing you all the best
