Hello dear,
VDRL is test for syphilis , it detect antibodies against trepenoma pallidium
There are various cause in which VDRL test give false positive reaction:
1. Viral infection
2. Malaria
3. Pnemonia
4. Tuberculosis
5. IV drug users
6. HIV

So if you suspect above any cause you should repeat test after taking treatment of that.

VDRL test will come positive after 3-5 week of trepenoma infection. so if you did test before 3 week it may be false negative.
If you have symptoms like ulcer anywhere in body that is painless and non itching (Mostly on mouth, vagina, palm and hand) and nodule around that it suggest syphilis.

Then you should consult with doctor.
And you should go for fluorescent treponomal antibody absorbance test that is very sensitive.

Hope this may help you.
wish you good health

Best regards
Dr. Sagar
