What Causes Vaginal Tenderness With Discharge During Post Menopausal Phase?

I went through menopause at 39 years of age. I have not had a menstrual cycle for 7 years. 3 weeks ago I started having vaginal pressure (not pain) and tenderness like during labor. I have a discharge (no smell) and some spotting/bleeding but enough to wear a panty liner. I am not sexually active (past 3 years). What could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Vaginal pain and bleeding is not common during menopause
It could be due to pelvic inflammatory disease, cervix and endometrial dysplasia, vaginal infection, polyp, hormonal imbalance, prolapse.
I would suggest to consult gynecologist and undergo vaginal examination,USG scan, vaginal swab test, PAP smear and endometrial biopsy if needed
Specific treatment will depend on cause
Drugs like tranexemic acid and progesterone will help you
For pain you can take tablet iburofen
Maintain proper pelvic hygiene
Take warm water sitz bath
Drink plenty of water and eat healthy diet
Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
