What Causes Vaginal Spotting After Taking Monistat?

About two weeks ago I upped the dosage of my Effexor. I also had to take antibiotics for a vaginal bacteria infection. A few days ago I had what I think was a yeast infection. I took Monistat and the itching subsided, but now I am spotting. I should be starting my period soon and not sure if the medication is affecting my period or what s going on.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Vaginal spotting is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina. As with yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis can cause bleeding or spotting. It's actually the most common cause of vaginal discharge in women who are premenopausal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prabhash Verma,
