What Causes Upper And Lower Abdominal Pains After Using Amoxicillin?
Hello, I was given Amoxicilin yesterday from my doctor because of a sore throat and a UTI. He said to take 2 pills twice a day. So I took 2 last night and 2 this morning. I am now experiencing upper and lower abdominal pains. The only way I know how to explain the pains is they almost feel like the pains I had when I had gallstones almost a year ago. My gallbladder has since been removed. Should I stop taking the antibiotic or is this a normal side effect?
dear, amoxicillin is quite famous for causing g.i. disturbances and some time they can be serious also. in 50-60 % paients its associated with diarhhea and pain abdomen. so i think u r suffering from side effects of amox. i would like to know hw much strength u are using , usual dose for adult is 500 mg tds ....for relief u can either switch to cephalosporins like cefadoxyl or cephalexin and if u want to continue wwith mox only than take it after meals. but i will recommend to use dicloxacillin or cloxacillin in place of plain mox. thanks revert back for follow up.
