What Causes Tremors In The Hands?

Hi, I am a 77 year old man in good health. exercise everyday, run, walk, lift. . I watch my diet ( 5ft 11inch, 185 lbs) . Heart rate 55 beat per minute, low blood pressure and ldl and moderate hdl. Just notice that once or twice a week my hand shakes slightly (notice only when eating (fork, knife). for about 5 minutes. Should I be concerned that this could be the beginning of Parkinsons?

Hello,

Parkinsonism typically causes tremors when at rest, not when you are eating. The parkinsonism is also associated with other features like the stiffness of limbs, a slowing of gait etc.

Since you have not mentioned these features, I assume you do not have these features. And therefore I do not think that this is the onset of Parkinsonism.

Again, the tremors of Parkinsonism are continuous. You have the symptoms for a few minutes. So I think that these may be stress or fatigue related tremors.

If the activity occurs at other times also when you are trying to do something such as pouring a glass of water, one may consider that this may be a cerebellar issue.

I think a neurological examination and an MRI of the brain is warranted in your case and I would advise the same to you.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Feel free to contact me if you need any clarification on any information above.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
