What Causes Tongue Thrust And Swallowing Difficulty?

what causes tongue pushing..my father moves his tongue around his mouth and also has trouble swallowing. thru my research it seems to involve the brocas area of the brain. Dads still healthy and active however has lost 30lbs since jan 2015. I know it can be associated with ALS but how do I monitor the progress and know when to really get aggressive with any potential diagnoses and treatment

* The tongue thrust with swallowing difficulty do indicate possible damage to the brain area affecting functioning of cranial nerves VII and IX most likely.

* The usual causes are hypertension ( uncontrolled ) with cerebro vascular stroke and its secondary sequences.
