What Causes Tongue Dryness And Inflammation?

for a few weeks my tongue has been "dry" feeling, even while drinking plenty of water. I haven't changed anything in my diet or lifestyle. I also experience "cankers" or painful spots on my tongue..new ones appearing almost daily. There is no white patches or red spots and as far as I know, no inflammation.. my tongue looks normal but is very uncomfortable. what could this be?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from a condition known as Dry mouth or Xerostomia leading to dryness of tongue while painful spots can be due to canker sores that can occur secondary to dry mouth..
Dry mouth can occur due to conditions like Salivary gland disorders, side effect of medications, hormonal imbalances etc..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and treatment of underlying cause can resolve the problem..

As of now you can chew sugar free chewing gums as it helps in stimulating saliva flow..
You can gargle with specialized mouthwash that are meant for dry mouth condition like Biotene mouthwash..
Drink plenty of water..
In case if sores are present you can gargle with a numbing mouthwash for pain relief especially during meals..
You can suck ice and rinse with cold water..
Take multivitamin supplements..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
