What Causes Tiredness, Excessive Salivation, Runny Nose, Breathlessness, Loose Stools And Excessive Sweating?

I have general tiredness; excessive saliva production; runny nose in colder weather; shortness of breath (diagnosed as COPD); frequent loose stools; and occasional excessive sweating at night. I am a 73 year old male and have been taking the same medications for a few years, but these symptoms appeared only this winter. I have had heart surgery, and have a yearly checkup and was told than my heart was good. I take inhalers for COPD and also have yearly checkup. My doctor prescribed antibiotics thinking it might be a bacterial sinus infection, but it did not remedy the problem. Any suggestions for possible causes of this?

Hello,

I too think it might be bacterial sinusitis, however x-ray of the sinuses is needed this time for diagnosis. Furthermore, x-ray of your lungs and a good physical examination would be of help.

For increased salivation, I suspect of possible acid reflux or gastritis. Should run upper endoscopy to rule it out and treat it adequately. For the moment, take antacids distant from any medication you are currently taking.

Chronic use of inhalers would alter oral mucosa causing oral thrush. Apply miconazole gel orally plus regular use of glycerin of borax orally.

General tiredness is linked to primary diagnosis of your heart; medications you take after surgery plus blood electrolyte imbalance. Should run blood electrolytes to rule it out and treat adequately.

Loose stool could be related to antibiotic use; start taking probiotics. Oral miconazole gel can help. Take plenty of fluids especially water with oral rehydration salts.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
