What Causes Tinnitus And Shortness Of Breath?

yes, lately I have been hearing this whooshing sound in my ear like I m hearing my heartbeat, if I do any activity I get out of breath and it starts a burning like sensation in my chest, feels like my lungs are burning and it spreads to my arms and they feel heavy too, my heart rate also speeds up, if I don t sit quickly I sometimes experience light headedness. I can t walk from one side of the house t the other without feeling like this. What is going on. I do have a little cough but not bad. I went to ENT and got a shot of Celestone. I felt better after that fro about 3 days then the symptoms came back. I had allergic rhinitis and my ear was bothering me. Was told I had a mucus plug in my ear thats why I m hearing that sound. But I have been on Cipro for 5 days and I don t see that great of an improvement. Tell me whats really going on.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you already had allergic rhinitis, we should definitely rule out allergic asthma for your cough, breathlessness and chest burning. So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). PFT will not only diagnose asthma but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only. You may need inhaled bronchodilators (Formoterol or Salmeterol) and inhaled Corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone). If PFT is normal then no need to worry much. Sometimes stress and anxiety can also cause similar symptoms. So avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these but first rule out asthma.

Hope I have answered your query.
