What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Hands And Feet?

I have been suffering from tingling like my hands and feet are asleep but it is painful especially in my right hand. I usually get this tingle in my hand when I am writing or knitting and I could shake it off. But lately I am unable to stop it even after stopping the activity and it is much more painful. It is worse at night and is keeping me up. My feet feel kind of warm also. Should I be concerned? See my dr.? YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Well, these are signs of certain neuropathic issues and this is most commonly seen in some metabolic disorders such as diabetes, of the most common causes of peripheral neuropathy, accounting for about 30% of cases.

In diabetic neuropathy, tingling and other symptoms often first develop in both feet and go up the legs, followed by tingling and other symptoms that affect both hands and go up the arms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
