What Causes Tingling Pain In Limbs And Popping Of Joints?

Hello. 5 months ago I was hit with a sudden onset of pain and tingling in both arms and both legs and popping in most of my joints which is still ongoing. Pain is not in the muscles. Seems to be the tendons or nerves. I had just started PT for mid back pain. MRIs of entire spine show degenerative disc and arthritis but no herniation or nerve impingement. Bone scan was also normal. Abdominal ultrasound was normal. All blood work including Lymes and RA have been negative and show little to no inflammation. Im 43 and exercise regularly. History of DVTs but no other medical problems. Im positive for the Ankylosing Spondylitis gene but the Rheumtologist says there is no sign of AS at this point. I was sure I had Lymes due to history of tick bites. My question is what else could cause such a sudden and systemic diffuse pain that would last this long? The pain is enough that I ve been unable to work for 3 months. I just started taking Lyrica and Nucyta ER but with little effect so far.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

Repeated joint pains can be due to multiple causes at this age the commonest being poly arthralgia. Other causes can be rheumatoid arthritis, gout, inflammatory diseases like SLE, bursitis, fibromyalgia, etc. For proper diagnosis, some of the blood tests are advisable like-
1. Serum calcium levels.
2. Serum Uric acid levels.
3. RA factor
4. ESR and CRP
5. Serum Creatinine
6. X-ray of affected joints.
You need a thorough clinical examination followed by investigations under the guidance of an orthopedician.
Till then for symptomatic relief, you can take over the counter analgesics, do hot fomentation and apply local analgesic gel on the affected areas.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
