What Causes Tingling And Fluttering Sensation In Lower Left Leg?

I am experiencing tingling or fluttering in my veins or nerves in my lower left leg, almost constantly. There is no pain, just annoying fluttering and some intermittent numbness. It goes from my ankle to half way up my calf. Is this something to be concerned with?

Hi,

For correct diagnosis, this needs few more details and a physical examination. Possibilities are varicose veins, peripheral neuropathy, and diminished blood supply (peripheral vascular disease). Is it associated with edema / itching around the ankle? Does the problem increase on prolonged standing? Any dilated/tortuous veins visible over legs?- these indicates varicose veins. Do you have any other illnesses like diabetes, ischemic heart disease or stroke? any smoking?- these may suggest poor blood supply. Neuropathy can be associated with pins & needle sensation or limb weakness.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
