What Causes Tight Sensation Across The Face?

Hi. I am 51 years old, and female. I was in a car accident 25 years ago, leaving me with a head/brain injury, a spinal cord injury, among other complications, yet I am married and have 2 beautiful boys. Because of my head injury, I need a nap everyday (about an hour, sometimes 2). It s generally not a problem. Lately, about a 2 weeks ago, I had both my ears cleaned out by a doctor, however she punctured one ear which made it bleed, and was sore for days. I had my regular doctor check it out, and he could see no problem except for the abbration, which was apparently healing. For a couple weeks before I had my ears cleaned out, my left ear felt plugged, which prompted the visit in the first place. During my 10-day Amoxicillan usage, I felt my left leg act up , meaning my left side is hypersensitive from sustained nerve damage. It feels tight- like a big rubber band is wrapped around it, and acts this way every time something is wrong with me. It has, within a few days, travelled up toward my left side of my neck/face. The last time I felt this tightness in my face, is when I had a supposed pinched nerve, causing Vertigo, which I experienced a few years ago, but with special exercises and therapy, I got better. I also experienced a low fever almost every day. I have finished the Amoxcillan, and my ears don t feel plugged or hurt anymore, but now I feel something else is wrong. I m taking a chance that someone out there can help me, otherwise, I ll be seeing my regular doctor again...

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have tight sensation across the face, the symptoms toms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons , but according to me the symptoms can be due to condition called Bell's palsy. Bell's Palsy is a disorder related to facial nerve that is seventh cranial nerve and is the nerve of face. Physiotherapy and electrical stimulation are the treatment modalities that work best. you can expect the normal sensations to be back in little more than a month. You can also massage the paralyzed area that that has shown good results. I would also like to advise you to go for MRI and CT Scans so that we can rule out any abnormality or lesion that may be compressing on the facial nerve causing tightening sensation. I symptoms doesn't go away then consult neurologist.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
