What Causes Throbbing Pain In Lower Back And Hips Along With Restricted Movement?

I am having bagging pain in the lower back, both groins and both hips with accompanying mobility problems for instance I can t climb stairs at all or step up on a curb. I have trouble bending over ! Can only sit for short periods and have a lot of pain in groins and hips upon standing again! Walking is difficult for me also! It also has affected my muscles in my buttocks and upper legs as well as though I have exercised way too much! This has been going on for about 1 1/2 months! Do remember a grabbing sensation in my back when I tried to press my foot down on a shovel to dig a small hole for planting just prior to this! I am A 68 year old woman and relatively healthy! I have had low back trouble in the past but never like this! There was some degeneration of the facet joints which showed on an M R I at least 10 years ago! Any ideas what might be going on?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the severe pain both buttocks with radiation to legs indicate nerve compression at lower level of spinal cord at lumbar or sacral pathways. Primary relief with:
- Analgesic spray or ointment with Diclofenac or Ketorolac patch
- tablets of anti-inflammatory with analgesic action
- Avoid sudden bending or weight lifting
- Control body weight, blood sugar

Discuss the need of an X-ray lower spine with or without an MRI for final diagnosis and cure accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
