What Causes Throat Pain After Radiation Treatments?

Hello. My father had throat cancer. He had radiation treatments and has been cancer free for over 10 years. This week he complained about throat pain and the constant feeling of a seed stuck in his throat. He went to his doctor and will have a biopsy taken March 20. He is so thin and is struggling with trying to gain weight as well. He said he doesn t want treatment if it is cancer. How long can he live with it untreated?

Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
The throat pain can be because of the reduced salivary secretion which makes the throat dry which is a complication of radiotherapy. The other possible cause can be a secondary fungal infection. Nothing to worry, consult an ENT surgeon and get an endoscopic examination done to confirm the diagnosis. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, we can treat accordingly.
I hope i have answered your query. Take care.
