What Causes The Smell Of Alcohol In Body Odor?

My 45 year old daughter is an long-term alcoholic that is no longer using. She has been clean for several months. She has a body odor that smells like alcohol but I know for certain she is not using. Would high ketones in her body cause this? She is about 25 pounds over what she should weigh. Diabetes perhaps?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Short answer: Yes, alcohol de-addiction can cause alcoholic body odor.

Deatiled answer: After stopping alcohol post chronic use, all stored forms of alcohol like ketones and aldehyde, is removed from body by sweating, urine, breathing helping the body detox. This results in smelly urine, sweat, breath odor.
If you suspect she has diabetes I would recommend getting a blood test done. A fasting and post lunch blood sugar level is sufficient to reach a diagnosis.
