Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes The Nasal Cavities To Get Blocked Every Night While Sleeping?
what can I do for stuffed up breathing passages, which occurs every night while sleeping, once up in the morning it clears out after expelling phlegm. I get some relief using a saline spray which only helps for a few minutes. I have had my septum corrected, which was of no benefit. During the day it is less bothersome. I do have sleep apnea, but unable to adjust to using a Capp. Thank you
Expelling the phlegm from the nasal passages is clearing the nasal airway, but getting blocked particularly in the night in spite of septal correction indicates that the problem can be due to a condition called vasomotor rhinitis. In this condition the CPAP does not help.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
First of all, get a second opinion of an another ENT Surgeon, ENT Endoscope and CT scan of the nose and sinuses. Relevant blood tests. This will give an idea of the cause that is causing symptoms. I think there is a local cause as well as an element of stress or anxiety. Hence, get the above things to get an exact cause so that a proper plan of management can help you to get an appropriate relief.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
