What Causes Tenderness In The Knee?

I have an extremely sore spot on the front of my right knee that hurts only if I touch it. If I kneel on that leg on the floor it will touch off waves of pain that last for 5 min. I can walk and move without pain. Only if that spot (top of calf muscle toward inside where dip under knee cap is) is bumped or touched do I have pain. and lots of it for a bit. Thank you.
