What Causes Swollen Ventricles In Baby During Pregnancy?
my obstetrician told me this morning that my babies ventricles are inflamed and we need to go back to have a 2nd scan...i am 22 weeks, i am worried about how this will effect the baby and what it all means. How concerned should i be and what could come of this?
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Enlarged and dilated ventricles in fetus are present in various conditions like: 1. Central nervous system anomaly 2. Genetic syndromes 3. Chromosomal anomalies especially Down syndrome 4. Idiopathic( no cause found) In this condition, I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist so that a detailed anomaly ultrasound can be done to rule out any congenital anomalies, and amniocentesis can be done to assess fetal karyotype. Further management should be done accordingly. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Dr Deepti Verma
