What Causes Swollen Glands In Neck And Dryness In Mouth?

my 16 yr old son had huge swollen glands in his neck (looked like he swallowed golf balls); those have gone down and are almost back to normal. However the severe dry mouth that came at the same time has not gone away. Yesterday it felt like he had food that wouldn't go all the way down his throat. He could breathe fine. Went to work, school etc. He has had bloodwork done. Not strep or Mono. He is NOT dehydrated. He is only eating soft foods and just smoothies and protein shakes for lunches at school. Soup, jello, yogurt etc dinner. Any thoughts? Doctors are unsure.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms dry mouth can occur due to a number of conditions but in your son's case it may be associated with mouth breathing habit during sleeping..
There can be a few other reasons like Allergic reaction to medicines, disorders associated with salivary glands, dehydration etc..

You should consult an Oral Physician and get him evaluated and treatment can be decided after confirmation of diagnosis..

As of now ask him to chew sugar free chewing gum as it stimulates saliva flow..
If your son have mouth breathing habit he can stick a vertical piece of micropore tape or doctor's tape over his closed lips before sleeping to prevent mouth breathing habit.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
