What Causes Swollen Gland Behind The Tonsil?

I have what looks like a swollen gland behind my tonsil. It is also under my tonsil it looks like it almost connects to it. It s normal color and when I move my tongue and look at my epiglottis it moves some. I have year year swollen tonsils from allergies. Could this be cancer?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
i can understand your concern.
i would like to know about your age.
donot worry, based on the history you have given it seems like a swollen gland due to an inflammation caused by an infection.
this doesnt point out to any cancers.
more over you have a frequent history of tonsillitis.
i would suggest an anti inflammatory drug like aceclofenac to be taken twice daily for five days. based on the physical finding an antibiotic like augmentin would also be advised.
if you have four or more episodes of tonsillitis every year i would suggest an appointment with an ent specialist so that tonsillectomy can be planned.
do salt water gargles with lukewarm water.
avoid cold water and icecreams.
i hope i have answered your concerns.
feel free to ask further queries.
wish you a speedy recovery.
thanks for choosing HCM.
