What Causes Swollen Gland And Tenderness Below The Jawline?

Hi..My gland is swollen on one side of my neck just below my jaw line. It is very tender in that area. My jaw is sore and part of my tongue underneath. I went to the emerg yesterday and he said I have a viral infection. I can hardly chew on that side of my mouth. My teeth are not sore in any way ( considering an abscess, maybe) ?

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swollen glands under the jaw can be due to 2 causes:
1.It can be swollen lymph nodes secondary to infection in head and neck or Oropharyngeal region..
2.It can be swollen Submandibular Salivary Gland that can be due to infection in the gland..
In case if it is diagnosed with Viral infection it seems to be most probably be inflamed and swollen lymph nodes..
I would suggest you to take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.
As it is Viral infection antibiotics are not needed as they can treat only bacterial infection..
So take anti-inflammatory painkillers and do cool compresses over the swelling..
Drink plenty of water and the ample of rest..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
