What Causes Swollen And Inflamed Foot?

Hi i have here my friend whose foot is very swollen and slightly red..he was prescribed CIPRO but after 6 days of treatment no betterment. I am just reading about pitting...the skin and fluid does sink in, ..we are still waiting for Mondey to go to the dr,

Hi,

I agree that the CIPRO which was likely for CELLULITIS is not going to be helpful here. With no improvement we can determine that this is not a bacterial infection of the skin, and with your description (and I am glad that you researched this a bit further) this sound a lot more like venous stasis dermatitis. Essentially edema in the foot and leg stretch the skin causing the pitting appearance and this in turn inflames the upper layers allowing it to produce the red appearance.

Usually, compression wraps, and even oral PREDNISONE can be used to reduce the swelling and appearance and also I am not sure if they ruled out a BLOOD CLOT in the leg but that needs to be considered here as a potential cause. I think getting an ultrasound of the leg to look for a clot is very reasonable and if that is negative then compression stockings or wraps of the legs along with a course of Prednisone might be a consideration.
