What Causes Swollen And Dry Chapped Lips With Tiny Blisters?

I was out of town for a week and the day I was returning my lips had one or two areas that looked chapped. No Big Deal.BUT I've never had chapped lips in my life and I'm a 53 year old female!
Then it spread to most of my lips and they were red and dry and had a couple of Tiny bumps. Had to buy some CarMax lip balm. Used if and in about a week it went away. Yesterday, sitting in a movie, I stared to feel something odd on my lower lip, so went to ladies room and my lower lip had broken out with Red tiny blistered looking bumps similar to before but BAMB, out of no where and by the end of the day, both upper and lower lips are coverd in them. Lips bright read and dry , tiny blistered and swollen, what the heck is this?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen and dry chapped lips with tiny blisters which is mainly because of dehydration of lips. Uneven hot, cold, dry air can also cause cracks in lips and becomes shelter for microorganisms to grow. I would suggest you to maintain hydration level by drinking plenty of water. Apply petroleum jelly on lips to prevent them from drying. Apply olive and coconut oils or essential oils on your lips to improve your symptoms. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit oral physician once and get it examined and start treatment as per diagnosis.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms there can be tow causes of chapped lips along with eruption of tiny blisters:

1.It can be due to allergic reaction to some food product or medication or any face or lip cosmetic or may be any irritant present in air and as soon as you are exposed there is allergic reaction.

2. Another reason can be viral infection caused by Herpes simplex virus causing cold sores.
There is formation of multiple fluid filled blisters over the lips as well as there is dryness and chapping of lips..

Consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can also advise you to get blood investigation done to rule out for allergies [allergic testing] or viral infection [viral culture, polymerase chain reaction, antigen antibody reaction] and treatment can be advised according to diagnosis..
For allergic reaction anti-allergics like Cetrizine, fexofenadine [Allegra] a, cold compresses and after ruling out the cause of allergy preventing exposure to allergen is helpful in prevening allergy attack.

For viral infection anti-viral oral and topical medications like Acyclovir, Valavyclovir etc can e advised.

You can apply thick coat of petroleum jelly or bees wax containing lip balm over lips to prevent dryness and irritation.
Prevent using any lip cosmetics.
You can apply aloevera gel..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
