What Causes Swishing Sound And Electrical Charge Sensation On Top Of Head?

I have a swishing sound and slight electrical charge sensation in top of my head when I turn my eyes up and to the left most every time. Sometimes the swishing sensation is accompanied by a strong electrical charge from the top of my breast to my throat. The sensation in head and chest is linked together while swishing and pulsating in same rythm with one another and about twice as fast as a heart beat. There is between 5-9 swishes each time it happens. There is no pain involved, but the sensation in chest is a dramatic electrical fluttering. I have seen eye, ear, nose, throat, dentist, chiropractor, family Dr., had pet scan and chest xrays,. No one can even come up with an idea. I was referred to a neurologist last month. He said not needed, without seeing me.

Hello,

Your symptoms of swishing sounds and electrical discharge sensations make me think of the pulsatile tinnitus. The most common symptom of pulsatile tinnitus is regularly hearing a steady beat or whooshing sound. The beat or sound is often in synch with the patient's heartbeat. When their heart rate increases, the beat or sound will become faster; when it decreases, the beat or sound will slow.

The causes of pulsatile tinnitus are atherosclerosis in the arteries, blood vessels malformations and aneurysm, ear abnormalities, high blood pressure, head and neck tumors, hyperthyroidism, and idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

The causes for electrical charge sensations may be aura that occurs with migraine headache, paraesthesias, and occipital neuralgia. Please discuss the above mentioned conditions with your physician and have a thorough clinical examination and few necessary tests for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
