What Causes Swelling On The Face After Taking Clindamycin?

My dog accidentally nipped my thumb Thursday. By Friday it was swollen and throbbing, I was burning up. Went to a MASH, Dr. prescribed Clindamycin. Thumb feels a lot better, but my face is quite swollen, I just read about its side affects...should I discontinue this antibiotic??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction from Clindamycin. I suggest using antihistamines daily such as Levocetirizine in the evening. I also suggest using steroids which are prescription medication. You should consult your doctor about this treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
