Thank you for sharing your query on Healthcaremagic, I have carefully worked through your case and is difficult to guess what kind the insect bit him although for your description you are right to think about some spider, I recommend you apply a cold compresses ( do not apply ice ) in the area 3-4 times a day x30 minutes fallow to steroid cream such as triamcinolone or hydrocortisone ( gentle massage ) to reduce the inflammatory reaction, take antihistamines 3 times a day OTC, drink enough fluids and vitamins supplements. Just in case the swelling area increased or newer symptoms appear like short of breath,pain or fever a doctor should be consulted.
