What Causes Swelling In The Shin After An Injury?

I was kicked hard on the shin at the weekend. There is quite a bit of swelling and pain but I can walk. More worrying is the dent where I was kicked which is very sensitive. The surrounding bone is markedly higher but if pressed, it will leave an indent, although temporary,which i assume indicates a collection of fluid. Not sure if I need XRAY...

Hi, it's difficult to know how much damage without a phisical examination, any trauma could be very banal but could have serious complications too.
Injuries such as fissure, fracture, hematoma, abscess, need an specific treatment, (Rest, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, drainage, immobilization etcetera).
I suggest you to see an traumatologist, that will help to save time and pain.
