What Causes Swelling In The Hands Post Meloxicam Intake?

I hurt my back and my Dr prescribed meloxicam - generic for mobic. I took one pill a day for a week. In that time I gained 6 lbs and have bad eye bags, red eyes and wake with swelling in my hands. I stopped taking the medication a few days ago but don t know how to get the eye bags, swelling to go down. Have already lost 2 lbs of the weight gain. What can you recommend I do for my eyes?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Meloxicam can cause interstitial nephritis-subsequent retention of salt & water leading to baggy eyelids, swollen hands etc. I advise stopping Meloxicam forthwith, if not done already.

Go for urine routine analysis, Serum creatinine, serum electrolytes & BUN as the first-line investigation. Consult a doctor with these investigation reports. Treatment will follow accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
