What Causes Swelling In The Feet While On Amlodipine?
I am 81 years old and have had two open heart operations for blocked arteries and am under care of the heart doctors. I am on the following drugs Allopurinol for Gout. I am on Amlodipine for high Blood pressure. I am on bumetanide for water control but still have considerable swelling in my feet and legs. I am on metoprolol a beta blocker for my heart. I am on valsartan for blood pressure or hypertension. I am on Zetia three times a week because of the statin reaction to my mussel and weakness. I am on xarelto for blood thinner. And other vitamins to supplement my problems. I understand why I am taking these under the care of a specialist. I have no problem with that nor have I had a heart attack. I was in the hospital two years ago and went thru a rugged test for my lungs and they were prefect. all said and done, my question is that I am very short of breath when I do almost anything and I know it is not my lungs. I just had a test done on my heart by a scan and was told it was ok, although I do have a # 1 rated mummer. In all your experts which drug would be the most likely cause of my shortness of breath? I am scheduled to see my heart do. at the end of April.
Hello, Thanks for the question. I have gone through the details given and various drugs you are on. In fact after looking at side effects of each of the drugs that you are on, there is not a single compound which can cause shortness of breath. This problem is more related to the heart condition itself. All the drugs which are prescribed have specific roles to help improve your overall condition. Because the functioning of heart itself is a bit compromised, there is bound to be some shortness of breath. Secondly of all the drugs that you are taking Amlodepine has a tendancy to cause retention of fluid in the lower limbs due to its action on arterioles, leading to swelling around ankle and legs. Thanks
