What Causes Swelling In The Ankles And Palpitations?
Over the past couple of months I ve been getting swollen ankles every couple of days. It usually gets worse during the day and then goes down at night or if I walk a lot. I sit at work all day. I m concerned because I have also been having heart palpitations once in a while over the past year along with other symptoms like wrestlessness and feeling pressure in my face. I ve thought that I ve just had some anxiety but I m not sure. My question is Should I be concerned about heart failure?
The symptoms of restlessness, pressure in your face, palpitations, etc may be caused by anxiety. The swelling of the legs is not related to anxiety though.
To conclude: - you may benefit from some treatment for anxiety, medications (citalopram or sertraline) and counseling. - the ankle swelling seems most likely due to venous insufficiency if you would like to confirm this a visit with your doctor will help.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,

Hi, The symptoms of restlessness, pressure in your face, palpitations, etc may be caused by anxiety. The swelling of the legs is not related to anxiety though. A common cause of the swelling of the ankles is varicose veins and venous insufficiency and rarely the heart (heart failure). Heart failure would be unlikely in otherwise healthy patient with no chest pains, no hypertension or shortness of breath.
