What Causes Swelling In Right Ankle And Foot?

I am a 46 year old female that is diabetic and has fatty liver. I just changed jobs from one that I was on my feet all day to one that I am sitting down a great portion of the day. What I am noticing is swelling in my right ankle/foot and not sure what is going on or what I can do for it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thank you for posting your question in HCM.

I would advice you to get your blood sugar levels & HbA1c level checked and see if your sugar levels have been well under control. If not you will need to get your diabetic medication reviewed and regulated by your physician. I believe the swelling in your ankle and foot is related to your diabetes. If you have been experiencing loss of sensation or numbness in your foot as well, this is what is called diabetic neuropathy which would require good control of your blood sugars. Please watch your diet as well.

Hope you have found this useful.
