without an exam, I can only give general information, but problems in the heart, liver, kidney or lungs cause fluid retention. The fluid retention causes other problems. If the heart isn't pumping enough blood then the typical symptoms are shortness of breath after mild activity, fatigue no energy, heavy feeling in chest, need to be elevated when sleeping. These are very serious symptoms that require immediate attention and benefit from treatment and can kill you if not treated.
