What Causes Swelling Due To Insect Sting?

I had something sting the top of my foot in the garden this past summer - since then the top of my foot has been swollen, including my toes, all the way into my ankle at times. Not painful, feels fat, alternately feels cold and hot, creepy up my lower leg, like it s a bit asleep. I ve had an ultrasound and an Xray- no impediment to the flow or anything broken. There s a slight odd shaped red spot, more like a discoloration about 3/4 inch on the top of my foot. My nurse practitioner is stumped and offers no suggestions. It s not getting better. I have no health problems-62 years old female, very active, have been on a week of Prednisone to see if that helps. So far, not better. Not diabetic. Any suggestions on what to do from here?

Hello,

I can understand your concern for swelling due to insect sting. I can understand from your query that you have this swelling since last summer so appears to be possibility of granulamatous lesion over your leg. In such kind of cases I generally go for the skin biopsy of the lesion form red areas of the leg.
You can meet a dermatologist and get yourself examined for the same. I suggest you to keep our leg elevated as far as possible and keep a pillow below your leg at night time. I suggest you to keep a observation on the area and if it increases then can take further guidance from your treating dermatologist.
Take care.
