What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Toe After An Injury?

Hello, i recently had a piece of round wooden art fall on my left big toe. I went to the emergency where he released some of the pressure using a needle thru my toe nail. My Toe is now very swollen, and looks like a big black eye at the base of the nail. It continues to be very painful. X-rays showed a possible hairline fracture but nothing that concerned the emergency doctor. I visited my regular doctor yesterday, and she recommended a week of elevating my foot with minimal walking. My Toe feels like its going to burst, and I m concerned it is not getting better but worse every day. Today is day 5 from the injury. Should I be seeking further medical treatment, or do i need to continue to elevate and rest it?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to minor contusion or sprain. As of now, you can use analgesics/anti-inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief. You can also apply ice packs for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopaedician and plan for an MRI scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
