What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Lower Abdomen?

Hey , I have had severe pretty intense pain and pressure-like feeling on my ovaries and pelvic area. I don t ever have normal cycles the last actual cycle I had was about 3 months ago. I m also swelling a bit in my lower abdomen and pelvic area, I have pressure in the vaginal area as well. Could this be just simple cyst or what else could it possibly be ? The pain is pretty intense . Just seems like it is alittle much to just be simple cyst . A hot bath or hearing pad help but does not get rid of pain. Very sharp.pains at times away well. Please get back with me, thanks so much.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello. This does seem to be an ovarian cyst - quite a big one in size, which is causing all those pressure symptoms. This could also be a large fibroid. Development of menstrual abnormalities or constipation or urinary retention warrants further evaluation. You need to get an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis to see where the mass is arising from. Hope this helps.
