Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had woken up this morning after only two hours of rest in great pain. Both of my knees became very swollen and where throbbing in pain. When I tried to get up I could feel my legs start to tremble while my knees felt as if they where about to give. The pain is constant but the severity of it come and goes, though I feel the worst of it when my legs turn or curling my toes. I am unable to stand up of walk on my own and the pain becomes unbearable at times. I would greatly welcome any advise or solution.
Pain in the knee can be due to various reasons. There are certain questions to be answered here to come to a conclusion. Your age and sex? Previous history of trauma to knees? Previous medical/surgical history? If all are unremarkable the following can because of sudden knee pain and swelling you experience:
1) An acute attack of gout.
2) Chondromalacia patellae.
3) Acute trauma.
4) Osteoporosis and the list go on.
I suggest you take an OTC painkiller like Tylenol for time being and apply hot fomentation. Schedule an appointment with an orthopedician who may require an X-ray and some physical examination to rule out and identify the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Moses John Wesley,
General & Family Physician
