What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Abdomen?

my son has had Sgles since May. the rash is gone, but he has swelling and fluid in his abdominal area which causes severe pain. This has been going on for several weeks with hardly any improvement. Lidocane cream seems to help some, but doesn t relieve the pain. He has Scleroderma which caused renal kidney failure a year ago and has been on dialysis 3 times a week ever since. His Reumatoligist thinks the swelling a fluid and pain is from the Shingles

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
The pain may be due to shingles and he can take analgesics like Gabapentin which is very much effective for neuropathic pain as in this case.
He can go for an ultraytonevaluate the abdominal pain and fluids in the abdomen.
If ultrasound shows anything suspicious you can consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated.Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
I find this answer helpful
