Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling And Numbness In Hand And Wrist After Injury?
My husband hit his hand while working with metal. Cut was a two inch slash across the top of his hand below knuckles 5 days ago. Also, hand hit hard could have fracture. I said he needed stitches he bled moderately but would not go. Today his hand is completely swollen with fingers going numb and up to wrist feels twisted.
Your husband got injured while working with metal. Now he is experiencing swollen and numb hand associated with pain and discomfort. Your husband is suggested to get clinically examined by an Orthopedic, get an X-ray done to detect any fracture. Since he is also experiencing numbness, the treating doctor can recommend MRI/CT to evaluate any nerve damage. He will be treated accordingly.
In the meantime, he can take NSAIDS, Combiflam or naproxen, one SOS after food to ease discomfort. He should keep his hand at rest and in a slightly elevated position. You can apply pain relieving ointment very gently. Do not let the wound get infected, apply ointment Soframycin.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
