What Causes Swelling And Itching On The Feet While On Amlodipine?

I started amlodipine besylate for very high bp. I was already on ramipril 1.25 bid. After 4 weeks my bp is around 140/60 P58. I have had some swelling of my feet and now experiencing skin itchiness which began in my back but now it is wide spread over my body. Could this be an allergy to the amlodipine? The only other problem I have had with meds was severe body rash from Chloroquine. Thank you, Fay Redston aged 85 yrs.

Hi,

Pedal oedema is quite common with Amlodipine and is the most common side effect. So yes its very likely that the edema may be becaouse of Amlodpine.

Similarly, rash and itching are also reported in 1 to 2 per cent people taking Amlodipine. So talk to your doctor as we may need to stop Amlodpine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
