What Causes Swelling And Itching Of The Right Hand Despite Taking Benadryl?

I was working in the garage and outside today. Now my right hand is swelling up. It is accompanied by itching and the site is warmer than surrounding area. I have been taking Benadryl (25 mg of active ingredient per tablet). I took 2 tabs earlier and it seemed to help. Then it came on again and so I have taken 2 more tabs. I am supposing that an insect bit me on the hand and that is what is causing the reaction. Am I tr4eating it right?

Hi,

As per your query you have swelling and itching of the right hand despite taking Benadryl. I would suggest you take Claritin, Allegra as well. You should drink plenty of liquids and fluids. Apply a soothing agent such as Calamine to stop itchiness. You can also get an over-the-counter topical corticosteroid cream to help lessen the reaction and itching. Apply ice to soothe the area. Visit dermatologist once if symptoms keep on persisting and get it examined and start treatment accordingly.
