Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling And Burning At The Crease Between Thighs And Vagina?
Why is the crease between my thighs and vagina swollen and burning? It is also darker than the rest of my skin. I am married so I know its not std. Is it from sweating? What should I use to get rid of it? I ve been using baby powder but its not helping. I ve had it for about 5 days.
It sounds like intertrigo. Sometimes there is yeast overgrowth here as well. Intertrigo occurs when skin breaks down due to rubbing and moisture. This often occurs in folds of skin (under the breasts, genital area, etc).
You can try a tropical steroid cream and an anti-fungal. Hydrocortisone and Clotrimazole are over the counter and can help. If you are able to get a prescription, Lotrisone works quite well and would heal the area faster than the weaker over the counter products. After the rash resolves, you may get some darkening of the skin called post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation that can lighten with time in most cases.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
