What Causes Sudden Weight Loss?

I am experiencing sudden unintentional weight loss. I have met with a surgeon to have a colonoscopy however I have not seen my PCP since the weight loss started. I have lost 22 pound since seeing my PCP the 20th and 4 pounds of it has been in the last two days. Should I make and appointment and go in to see my PCP or just wait until after I have the procedure done in 2 weeks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I suggest you have a consult with your primary care physician. There are many reasons for weight loss starting with endocrine glands problems, neurological, infections, gut problems and even malignant disease.

Colonoscopy only, can't make a right diagnosis. Your primary care physician will give you directions on what to do and what tests must be done to evaluate the situation and have a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Suzana Zharri,
