Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query about your husband and here are my thoughts.

It is good that you have recovered fully from stroke and now working full time.
This means the current problems of sudden weight loss, bad smell, bad taste, throwing up everything else, bloating, loss of sleep can be due to some other reasons.
The altered smell and taste sensation can be a psychological or an actual problem with the brain structures.
MRI studies of the brain and cranial nerves can help to know the details and get treated accordingly.
Gastroenteritis can be thought about and needs the tests of stool and blood, ultrasonography and Upper GI Endoscopy as indicated to get an appropriate diagnosis and have a proper plan of management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
